I refuse to remember your face
or to think your name.
In fact, these words
are directed at nobody.
So why am I thinking them?
I would rather think of socks
fresh from the dryer,
hugging my feet, and
I would rather think of a book,
a good one propped open in my lap.
I would rather think of orange juice,
no pulp of course, early every morning.
I would rather think of
anything, but instead I keep thinking
I refuse to remember your face
or to think your name.
In fact, these words
are directed at nobody.
So why am I thinking them?
